Expedition Multi-Sport 7th - 8th Grade in Curt Gowdy, WY

Our weeklong multi-sport expedition camp lets 7th – 8th graders of all levels explore the diverse and dramatic landscape of Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming, taking on a range of adventure sports by day and camping under the stars by night. Located 24 miles West of Cheyenne, Curt Gowdy sits at the foothills of the Laramie Mountains, a gorgeous mix of lush meadows, low hills and striking granite crags.

After setting up a campsite that will serve as their home base for the week, campers (no more than 13 to a group) discover what the MULTI in multi-sport program really means. Namely, embarking on a different adventure every day—biking the park’s extensive trails one day, climbing at world famous Vedauwoo, plus hiking, canoeing, white water rafting and archery—all the while building technical skills and fostering a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.

From cooking on camp stoves to sleeping in tents, navigating a canoe to negotiating tough terrain, expedition campers learn to meet countless challenges with intelligence and poise. It’s a confidence-building, life-changing experience that gives them the skills and independence they need for a lifetime of adventure.

We are tracking the state and county public health orders closely. Expeditions are small, self-contained, and self-quarantining groups that are well suited for this next phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are hopeful to be able to run our Expeditions. Of course, depending on the changing recommendations from the CDC, state and county governments, and medical experts, we may need to cancel or adjust these programs. Teambuilding

Campers will have a blast out on the river traveling to nearby Cache la Poudre River for white water rafting. They will learn the basics of rafting, safety and equipment and how to use paddling techniques as they learn to work together floating down the river.

Our hikes get campers out onto the trails and into the varied landscape of Curt Gowdy State Park, teaching them about flora, fauna and the principles of Leave No Trace as they explore and gain respect for the natural world.

Campers of all levels will take to the park’s granite crags to learn the in’s and outs of skillful scaling, including climbing techniques, equipment use and safety precautions.

* Please Note: Climbing is NOT included for Session 10 and will spend this day Hiking instead.

Whether they’re first-time bikers or regular riders, we get campers familiar with mountain biking technique, safety and equipment on Curt Gowdy’s 50+ miles of dedicated mountain bike trails. Campers may be divided into smaller groups based on biking ability.

Take to Curt Gowdy’s reservoirs for a canoeing adventure, fine-tuning your paddling technique, building balance and learning the basics of water safety and rescues.

Campers will set up their own campsite away from home, learning the ins and outs of camping as they sleep in tents, cook meals outdoors and maintain a tidy space. In their expedition group of no more than thirteen campers, they’ll play games, tell stories and bond around the campfire, making memories and forging lasting friendships.

As they interact with their expedition-mates during the week—playing games, hanging out during downtime—campers will practice important interpersonal skills like communication, problem solving and teamwork.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
