Adventure Camp Portland - 2nd to 7th - Day Camp

Our Adventure Camp transports 2nd – 7th graders out to authentic local settings for thrilling, fulfilling outdoor experiences over the course of a two-week session. Whether they’re returning or first-time campers, every day is a different adventure—mastering mountain biking, climbing a local crag, hiking a trail, stand up paddleboarding, and kayaking—and every challenge is calibrated to their age and ability.

Grouped by grade, campers build skills and confidence as they return to our program year after year. 2nd – 4th graders concentrate on getting comfortable with new activities, with plenty of support and inspiration from our staff and returning campers. Once they reach 5th – 7th grade, campers shift their focus to teamwork, mentorship, and deepening their technical competence.

Led by the best outdoor instructors around, campers develop the know-how and lasting self-assuredness that propel them toward a lifetime of exciting and nourishing outdoor adventure.

Places We Go: L.L. Stub Stewart State Park

Whether campers are riding for the first time or the hundredth, we get them comfortable with biking technique, safety, equipment, and maintenance. They can bring their own wheels or borrow from our fleet, which has bikes for campers of all sizes.

Places We Go: Forest Park

On stunning trails in local sites, campers get out into nature and back to basics, learning about flora and fauna and Leave No Trace principles as they explore and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Places We Go: Cedar Oak

Campers build strength and balance on stand up paddleboards, playing games and gaining confidence on the water at local destinations.

Our kayaking program helps campers grow incrementally more comfortable on the water as they get familiar with their environment and equipment. They learn about water safety and paddling techniques, practicing their new skills in bodies of water nearby.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blue’s Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blue’s Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
