Expedition Multi-Sport 7th - 8th Grade in Steamboat Lake State Park, CO

Our weeklong multi-sport expedition camp lets 7th – 8th graders of all levels explore the majesty of Steamboat Lake State Park in northwestern Colorado, tackling adventure sports during the day and camping under the stars at night. The park’s wildflower-dotted meadows and vast, lovely lake sit in the shadow of awe-inspiring Hahns Peak, a perfect jumping-off point for adventure.

We call the camp “multi-sport” because every day offers up a new sport for kids to try, from hiking, biking and geocaching on land to white water rafting, canoeing and stand up paddleboarding on the water. They’ll also hone their camping skills as they set up, maintain and break down the campsite they’ll call home throughout the week.

Building solid know-how in everything from cooking outdoors to practicing Leave no Trace and improving teamwork skills, campers will gain a newfound respect for the natural world and forge deep connections with their fellow campers. It’s an unforgettable experience full of opportunities to grow, one that imparts confidence and independence that lasts long after the expedition ends.

We are tracking the state and county public health orders closely. Expeditions are small, self-contained, and self-quarantining groups that are well suited for this next phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are hopeful to be able to run our Expeditions. Of course, depending on the changing recommendations from the CDC, state and county governments, and medical experts, we may need to cancel or adjust these programs. Teambuilding

Rafting day offers campers plenty of practice paddling through rapids, learning to stay safe on the water and working as a team to navigate their raft.

Hiking trails wind through the park’s meadows and along its shoreline, offering campers an abundance of beautiful routes. As they hike, they’ll learn more about their environment, appreciating the flora and fauna they encounter and internalizing the principles of Leave No Trace.

Campers at every level will hone their mountain biking skills, getting familiar with technique, safety and equipment as they traverse Steamboat Lake State Park’s scenic trails. Campers may be divided into smaller groups based on biking ability.

We help kids build core strength and good balance atop paddleboards as they play games, master proper strokes, practice rescue techniques and maneuver their boards through Steamboat Lake.

Campers take to Steamboat Lake for a canoeing adventure, fine-tuning their paddling technique, building balance and learning the basics of water safety and rescues.

Campers will set up their own campsite away from home, learning the ins and outs of camping as they sleep in tents, cook meals outdoors and maintain a tidy space. In their expedition group of no more than thirteen campers, they’ll play games, tell stories and bond around the campfire, making memories and forging lasting friendships.

As they interact with their expedition-mates during the week—playing games, hanging out during downtime—campers will practice important interpersonal skills like communication, problem solving and teamwork.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
