Mountain Biking Camp Highlands Ranch - 2nd to 7th - Day Camp

Campers experience the thrill of mastering mountain biking as they hit the trails in our Mountain Biking Day Camp. With help from our seasoned instructors, campers spend the week practicing mountain biking skills, learning bicycle maintenance basics and traversing the terrain in some of the best beginner parks and trails around Highlands Ranch.

Our campers’ adventures are carefully customized so they progress as their comfort and skill level grow. We also group them by grade—2nd – 4th graders in our Skills Camp, 5th – 7th graders on the Adventure Team—to be sure they’re in good company as they build confidence and further their mastery of mountain biking.

Please note: We strongly encourage campers to use their own bikes. We provide bikes and helmets for all campers who do not have a bike or choose not to use their own bike. In order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit.

Bike Maintenance

Places We Go: Dawson Butte, South Valley, Chatfield, Meyers Ranch, Flying J Ranch

Campers learn how to properly fit a helmet and bike, practice basic bike commands and get comfortable with technical skills including bunny hops, track stands, braking and shifting, becoming more proficient riders as they take on incremental challenges.

Places We Go: Dawson Butte, South Valley, Chatfield, Meyers Ranch, Flying J Ranch

We introduce campers to a range of trails where they practice good trail etiquette as they learn to ride on rolling single and double track terrain, descending and ascending trail sections and narrow and winding trails.

Places We Go: Dawson Butte, South Valley, Chatfield, Meyers Ranch, Flying J Ranch

When they’re not riding, campers get familiar with the nuts and bolts of bike maintenance, learning to safety check their bikes, solve gear problems and change flat tires.

Sam Murray

I love working with kids who are excited to explore and learn about the outdoors. Kids keep me feeling young and excited to go to work every day. They are constant sources of energy, fun, and inspiration. I feel incredibly grateful for my family and role models growing up because they helped me learn to appreciate being outdoors and having adventures and I want to support kids making that discovery for themselves. I have avalanche safety training (AIARE Level 1, AIARE Rescue), Avid Lead Climbing Certification and Wilderness First Responder Certification. I grew up going to a sleep-away camp in Maine called Camp Agawam and we still enjoy a strong relationship with many of our friends from our time there. I love feeling connected to landscapes and wildlife. Climbing, biking, hiking all give me opportunities to connect with myself and the landscape in new ways. My favorite place to be outside of the camp season is exploring the mountains on my splitboard with my dog and my girlfriend/adventure partner, Emma.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
