Adventure Camp Golden - 2nd to 7th - Day Camps

Our Adventure Camp transports 2nd – 7th graders out to authentic local settings for thrilling, fulfilling outdoor experiences over the course of a two-week session. Whether they’re returning or first-time campers, every day is a different adventure—mastering mountain biking, climbing a local crag, hiking a trail, paddling a canoe or kayak—and every challenge is calibrated to their age and ability.

Grouped by grade, campers build skills and confidence as they return to our program year after year. 2nd – 4th graders concentrate on getting comfortable with new activities, with plenty of support and inspiration from our staff and returning campers. Once they reach 5th – 7th grade, campers shift their focus to teamwork, mentorship, and deepening their technical competence.

*This session is two weeks long.

As part of our Covid safety measures, we are offering two Golden locations to limit the capacities at a camp drop-off/pick-up facility.

Places We Go: Clear Creek Canyon, North Table Mountain, Morrison Cliffs

We transport campers to nearby crags to learn the ins and outs of skillful scaling, including climbing techniques, equipment use and safety precautions.

Places We Go: Big Soda Lake, Bear Creek Lake Park, Arvada-Blunn Reservoir

Our flat-water instruction program gives campers practice and confidence with paddling equipment and safety, getting them comfortable with the basics before taking on deeper skill building in both kayaks and canoes.

Places We Go: Marshall Mesa, Three Sisters Park, Bear Creek Lake Park

Whether they’re first-time bikers or regular riders, we get campers familiar with biking technique, safety and equipment (plus some bicycle maintenance basics) out on local trails.

*We strongly encourage campers to bring their own bikes on biking day.

Places We Go: Corwina Park, Bergen Park

Our hikes get campers out into nature and back to basics teaching them about the flora and fauna they encounter and the principles of Leave No Trace as they explore and gain respect for the natural world.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
