Expedition River Trip Colorado - 9th to 12th Grade - Expedition

Dive into adventure in a weeklong river trip for campers ready to take their rafting skills to the next level. They’ll spend three days on the water, paddling and navigating whitewater, and nights on dry land, camping under the stars. In addition to the river rafting, campers will also get a chance to tackle a peak ascent in the Gore Range!

Supported by two experienced Avid4 Adventure staffers and professional guides from a local whitewater rafting company, the team of up to 13 campers will learn how to rig, navigate, and paddle, 7 person whitewater rafts. They’ll also learn basic swift water rescue techniques and how to “read” the river. When they’re not rafting, campers will turn their attention to the art of camping, learning to cook, clean, and sleep comfortably in the great outdoors on the river as they move sites each night down the river. The final day after the river trip will be spent hopefully summiting a peak before heading back to the front range.

After a week soaking up new skills, forging friendships and deepening their appreciation of the natural world, expedition campers will come away with fresh reserves of confidence, energized for their next adventure.

Colorado Expedition campers will spend the week alongside the Upper Colorado River in wilderness campsites, enjoying some of the best rafting in the state and guided by Liquid Descent.

*No experience rafting is necessary. Campers should be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time and feel excited to spend three full, physically demanding days, on watercraft.

Peak Ascent

Campers will have a blast white water rafting while they will learn the basics of rafting, safety and equipment and how to use paddling techniques as they learn to work together floating down the river.

Throughout the week, campers will practice important interpersonal skills like communication, problem solving and teamwork. Through games during downtime, stories around the campfire and time alone reflecting, they’ll build confidence and comfort within the group and as an individual.

Campers will learn to maintain a campsite, setting up and breaking down their equipment, keeping their space tidy and cooking their own meals in the backcountry that fosters independence and valuable skills they will use throughout their lives. They’ll play games during downtime and swap stories around the campfire, building deep, lasting friendships with their fellow expedition-mates.

As a capstone to their week of adventures, campers get an early start and will have a chance to summit a mountain in the Gore Range. Bagging a peak is both challenging & rewarding, giving campers a profound sense of accomplishment and panoramic views.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
