Your Resident Overnight Camp Directors

Eric Rightor

Mt. Evans Resident Camp Director (1st – 5th Graders)

Eric’s passion for outdoor adventure and youth development started early on and has only gotten stronger since becoming a camp professional 10 years ago. Born and raised in Boston, Eric started going to overnight camp at age 10 and has only missed one summer since, which he did to realize his dream of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. He spent 14 years at YMCA Camp Coniston in New Hampshire, climbing the ranks from camper to senior leadership, before becoming the Senior Program Director of the YMCA of Greater Boston’s Overnight Camps and the Executive Director of Camp Bauercrest. Eric has his B.A. in communications, legal institutions, economics and government from American University in Washington, D.C., and despite the best efforts of many to draw him into a different career, he simply cannot let go of his belief in the power of camp. Eric has seen and experienced first-hand the power of outdoor adventure in teaching kids the valuable lessons that will enable them for success, no matter their life’s pursuit. When he’s not at work, you can find him competing at the curling club, skiing down the slopes and exploring the backcountry in every way he can.

Claire Dunlap

Windy Peak Resident Camp Director (6th – 11th Graders)

Claire discovered her passion for working with kids at overnight camp in 2010 and has been in the camping industry every year since. She went to Murray State University in her home state of Kentucky, where she majored in Outdoor Recreation and Youth and Nonprofit Leadership.  After college, she spent her first summer working at Southwoods, a camp in Upstate New York, as an Outdoor Adventure Instructor and quickly climbed to becoming the Director of the Outdoor Adventure program in 2012. Claire was hands-on in the program until 2017 and led her staff and campers on hiking, camping, mountain biking, caving, rock climbing, and paddling adventures all over the Adirondacks. She’s also directed programs for the YMCA and Camp Adventure, where she worked on military bases to serve in their Child Development Centers.  She loves working with kids because it provides an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than herself, empowering campers to be themselves, and grow outside their comfort zones.  Claire has a reputation for personal connection and creating safe, supportive environments for kids to realize their potential and discover new passions.  Claire spent the last two seasons with Avid4 Adventure as the Senior Assistant Director at Windy Peak to now as the Director.  You can find her exploring the outdoors, riding her beloved bike Windy, believing in unicorns, traveling the globe, and spending time with friends and family.
