Rock Climbing Camp: Scaling the Heights

Highlands Ranch – Rock Climbing Camp

Our Rock Climbing Day Camp gets campers climbing, scaling some of the most iconic formations around Highlands Ranch and learning the rock climbing ropes. Supported by our top-notch instructors, campers master the basics of knot tying, belaying, rappelling and climbing as they ascend a range of routes and rock types.

Campers take on activities designed just for them in teams grouped by grade—2nd – 4th graders make up our Skills Camp, while 5th – 7th graders join the Adventure Team—broadening their technical skills and conquering more challenging climbs as they gain comfort and competence.

Rock Climbing campers ideally should have experienced climbing before — on a rock wall, climbing gym, or even on natural rock. Although there are no prerequisite skills or experience needed, children should have a desire to climb and learn more.

Camp Director

Talia Baker

Talia has loved the outdoors ever since she was a kid– hiking, kayaking and exploring nearby farms in rural upstate New York. Her passion for teaching started early. By age 13, she was working at a 100-acre U-pick farm, educating students about local agriculture. After graduating from Cornell with a B.S. in agricultural education, she worked creating educational summer programs for local camps and children’s gardens.

She started at Avid4 Adventure as an instructor, honing her skills in mountain biking, rock climbing and canoeing, becoming certified in Wilderness First Aid and as a Wilderness First Responder. As the director of our Highlands Ranch camps, she loves helping kids get connected to the natural world and to each other. When she’s not at her day jobs as an Avid4 Adventure Camp Director or as a Distance Learning Coordinator at Respect Academy, you’ll find her hiking or playing rugby.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
