Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp: Board with a View

Golden – Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp

Stand up paddleboarding is enjoyed by many for its convenience, overall strength building, and incredible views. Our Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp teaches campers on both flat-water and whitewater where they work on paddling skills and feel the joys of paddling with scenic views. Under the guidance of our able instructors, campers will learn basic strokes, rescue techniques, river reading and water safety as they navigate beautiful bodies of water in Colorado’s Front Range.

Campers learn skills tailored to their ability level, progressing as they build proficiency and comfort. We group them by grade range—2nd – 4th graders join the Skills Camp, while 5th – 7th graders make up our Adventure Team—and give them plenty of individualized support as they develop confidence and deepen their technical expertise, stroke by stroke.

Please note: SUP Day Camp campers should have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water. In order to register for this program, campers MUST feel fully comfortable on open water and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. If you have any questions about whether SUP Day Camp is right for your child, please give us a call at 800-977-9873.

THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Flat Water

Whitewater

Places We Go: Chatfield State Park

Campers spend their first two or three days mastering flat-water skills at Chatfield State Park, getting comfortable balancing on their board, learning paddle strokes and practicing rescue techniques before they ever steer their boards towards moving water.

Places We Go: Clear Creek, South Platte River, Boulder Creek

During the second half of the week, campers will leave flat-water behind to build knowledge and skills in moving water, practicing their technique. Please note that our paddling locations will depend on water levels and group ability.

MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Daniel Fluharty

Daniel started adventuring as a kid growing up in Arkansas and hasn’t stopped since. He took a job working at summer camps as soon as he was old enough, and became a caving, climbing and backpacking guide and a climbing and canyoneering instructor during his college years at Western Kentucky University and Metropolitan State University. After graduating with a degree in recreation management, he worked as a lead climbing and mountain biking guide at Apex Ex Adventure Trips.

A Wilderness First Responder and American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Climbing Instructor, Daniel spends as much time as he can mountain biking, rock climbing, splitboarding, backpacking and playing soccer. He loves working with kids in the outdoors, harnessing their natural spirit for exploration and guiding them in new and exciting adventures.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
