Day Camp

“During training, I remember watching videos of people saying things like “Avid changed my life” and thinking they were crazy. How could a summer job be so life changing? But they were right. No experience in my life can compare to my summer with Avid. Helping kids learn new skills and hearing them talk about how stoked they are about nature is the best feeling in the world. Kids needed camp more than ever after COVID, and I’m so thrilled I got to be a part of their experience. My personal growth was also greatly impacted by this summer; I made lifelong friendships, found passions for new sports, and fell in love with the outdoors all over again. “By the end of the summer, I was tired and admittedly a bit relieved to be saying my farewells to my last campers as their parents whisked them away. What I was not prepared for was the heart-wrenching day when I had to say my goodbyes and see-you-laters to the family that I had found amidst an eclectic collection of strangers that had come together only two months prior. I think the core value, Live Community, couldn’t have been chosen for a better year when myself and many of my fellow instructors came to Avid for the campers but stayed for the staff.
