Camp V
Glowering Spot
Steeply Overhanging Rope Ascent
Dizzy from the exposure 3000′ up
Andy a few pitches from the top
Dave leading 3rd pitch from the top
Looking down from the last belay
Dave leading last pitch
On top after a night’s sleep!
This is what Camp V looked like when we awoke Monday morning about 2300’ up El Capitan. This would be our last day on the wall and we had to push to reach the summit.
It was a long day of climbing that brought us to the summit. The upper pitches are all overhanging and you can see this as Andy ascended a fixed rope and slowly turned in mid-air.
Once again we climbed into the darkness, beginning the last pitch at dusk. We made the summit by 10pm and spent the night on the top before heading down.
