Discovery Camp Wash Park - Pre-K - Day Camp

Three- and four-year-olds are ready for their first dip into outdoor adventure. Ready to experience our carefully balanced mix of adventure sports, outdoor education and creative pursuits.

In our Discovery Day Camp, pre-K campers experience small-scale versions of our signature adventure activities. With a camper to staff ratio of 6:1, they learn to ride on two wheels, paddle in canoes, climb on our rock wall, and go on short hikes all in the nurturing confines of our camp environment. They enjoy yoga, music and art activities as the perfect complement to their outdoor adventures. There is also a 45 minute period of downtime each day where nap mats and blankets, storytime and arts and crafts are available.

Throughout the week, campers are supported by highly qualified pre-K outdoor instructors who teach curriculum developed by early childhood educators. Our Discovery Camp is a giant first step toward developing technical skills, confidence and a love of the outdoors for life. Save when you sign your camper up for multiple weeks! THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Rock Climbing

Canoeing

Biking

Exploring

Yoga, Art, & Music

Places We Go: On site

Our smallest campers wear harnesses and helmets designed specifically for their size as they find their footing on our 25-foot mobile rock wall, learning the basics of climbing techniques, equipment and safety.

Places We Go: Smith Lake

The open water could never be more accessible to campers with Smith Lake across the street from our camp location. There, campers get comfortable using boats, paddles and personal flotation devices—all with the support and supervision of our qualified staff.

Places We Go: On site, trails at Washington Park

From biking beginners to pros on wheels, we get campers familiar with biking technique, safety, equipment and maintenance, either on their own bikes or with one from our fleet (which can accommodate campers of any size). We also help training wheel riders graduate to two wheels.

Places We Go: On site, Washington Park Trails

On a series of short hikes in Washington Park, campers learn about flora and fauna, catch bugs and butterflies, explore their surroundings through a magnifying glass and practice Leave No Trace principles as they start to build a better understanding of the natural world.

To round out the week, campers balance their adventure activities with creative pursuits including storytime yoga, art and music, learning about balance, self-expression and how to engage their bodies in new ways.

MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Sharon Bose

The mission of Avid4 Adventure is one of the initial reasons I wanted to work with them. I wanted to be a part of sharing the outdoors with children in a unique way where each child can experience a new skill, or continue to develop a passion for a skill that already excites them. Allowing children the opportunity to connect with the outdoors provides lifelong memories and plants a seed for them to continue to pursue active outdoor adventures. I currently have my Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR and Waterfront Skills certification from the American Red Cross and Wilderness First Responder certification. I am also fully certified as a Director of Early Childhood through the State of Colorado as of May 2019. From my experience teaching Early Childhood in the private sector of education in Denver to exploring the outdoors with children, there are a lot of young minds who can learn through experience that cannot be transferred into the classroom. I love working with children because they have so much energy and a willingness to try something new. Outside of camp, I enjoy running! I also enjoy hiking and playing on the water and standup paddleboarding is quickly becoming one of my go-to summer sports. During the summers, you can find me playing volleyball and running along any of the trails in the greater Denver area. In the winters, you can find me on the slopes in Summit County! A quote that encourages me to continue to engage with the people around me is, “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.” The message is one of human connection, something that continues to make the world the beautiful place we have to share.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blue’s Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clue’s so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
