Mountain Biking Camp Superior - 2nd to 7th - Day Camp

Campers experience the thrill of mastering mountain biking as they hit the trails in our Mountain Biking Day Camp. With help from our seasoned instructors, campers spend the week practicing mountain biking skills, learning bicycle maintenance basics and traversing the terrain in some of the best beginner parks and trails around Lafayette.

Our campers’ adventures are carefully customized so they progress as their comfort and skill level grow. We also group them by grade range—2nd – 4th graders in our Skills Camp, 5th – 7th graders on the Adventure Team—to be sure they’re in good company as they build confidence and further their mastery of mountain biking.

Please note: in order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. While we strongly encourage campers to use their own bikes, we can provide bikes (and helmets) as needed.

THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Technical Skills

Trail Riding

Bike Maintenance

Campers learn how to properly fit a helmet and bike, practice basic bike commands and get comfortable with technical skills including bunny hops, track stands, braking and shifting, becoming more proficient riders as they take on incremental challenges.

Places We Go: Eagle Trail, Marshall Mesa, Dowdy Draw, Flatirons Vista

We introduce campers to a range of trails where they practice good trail etiquette as they learn to ride on rolling single and double track terrain, descending and ascending trail sections and narrow and winding trails.

Places We Go: Eagle Trail, Marshall Mesa, Dowdy Draw, Flatirons Vista

When they’re not riding, campers get familiar with the nuts and bolts of bike maintenance, learning to safety check their bikes, solve gear problems and change flat tires.

MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Katie Hopkins

What I love most about working for Avid4 Adventure is getting to be outdoors and helping kiddos unlock their passion for living active, healthy lifestyles. It doesn’t get better than that! I grew up playing outside with my cousins and that blossomed into my passion for summer camps and eventually my career in therapeutic recreation. We learn more with play than we do sitting around watching tv. I started going to camp when I was 11, going every year until I was a senior in high school, then spent that summer working at my childhood camp. Since 2013 I’ve worked at 4 different summer camps for all different kinds of kiddos and families. I’m excited to spend this summer as a Camp Director with Avid4 Adventure! So many people move to Colorado to experience all the incredible outdoor activities, and I’m no different. I am one of the lucky few who gets to turn their passion for the outdoors into their job. Seeing the world from a child’s eyes and getting to be silly and imaginative couldn’t be more fun. Recently, I’ve gotten into paddle-boarding in the summers! I am also an avid skier and a huge fan of camping. Being outdoors makes my heart happy. I am a big believer that nothing should stop you and your child from living a fun and active lifestyle, and I’m here to show you I can and will adapt in order to make sure your child has the best experience possible.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
