Expedition Multi-Sport 9th - 11th Grade in Steamboat Lake State Park, CO

Our weeklong multi-sport expedition camp lets 9th – 11th graders of all levels explore the majesty of Steamboat Lake State Park in northwestern Colorado, tackling adventure sports during the day and camping under the stars at night. The park’s wildflower-dotted meadows and vast, lovely lake sit in the shadow of awe-inspiring Hahns Peak, a perfect jumping-off point for adventure.

We call the camp “multi-sport” because every day offers up a new sport for campers to try, from hiking, biking and geocaching on land to white water rafting, stand up paddleboarding and fishing on the water. They’ll also hone their camping skills as they set up, maintain and break down the campsite they’ll call home throughout the week.

Building solid know-how in everything from cooking their own meals outdoors to conflict resolution, campers will gain newfound independence, life skills and respect for the natural world and forge deep connections with their fellow campers. It’s an unforgettable experience full of opportunities to grow, one that imparts confidence and independence that lasts long after the expedition ends.

We are tracking the state and county public health orders closely. Expeditions are small, self-contained, and self-quarantining groups that are well suited for this next phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are hopeful to be able to run our Expeditions. Of course, depending on the changing recommendations from the CDC, state and county governments, and medical experts, we may need to cancel or adjust these programs. Team Building

During their day of white water rafting, campers will practice paddling through rapids, staying safe on the water and working together with their fellow rafters to navigate their vessel.

Campers will discover the rich, varied landscape of Steamboat Lake State Park along its lovely hiking trails, learning about flora, fauna and the principles of Leave No Trace as they explore and gain respect for the natural world.

First-timers and experienced cyclists alike will get comfortable with mountain biking technique, safety and equipment on Steamboat Lake State Park’s extensive bike trails. Campers may be divided into smaller groups based on ability.

The still waters of the park’s reservoirs offer the perfect spot for stand up paddleboarding. Campers will build core strength and balance by playing games, honing paddling techniques and practicing rescues.

Campers will set up, maintain and break down their own campsite, sleeping in tents, cooking their own meals outdoors and keeping a tidy home away from home. In an expedition group, they’ll play games, relax during downtime and talk around the campfire, forging lasting friendships and having unforgettable fun.

As they share adventures with their expedition-mates in the great outdoors—sharing stories around the campfire, cooking meals together, navigating rivers, lakes and trails—campers build a tight-knit community making memories that last a lifetime.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
