Advanced Kayaking Camp Golden - 4th to 7th Grade - Day Camp

Our Advanced Kayaking summer camp teaches more experienced paddlers intermediate to advanced instruction for kayaking on moving water (class I-III) in a safe, comfortable progression that builds off of Kayaking Single Sport camp curriculum.

Throughout the week, they’ll learn many technical aspects of whitewater kayaking giving them the confidence to continue their kayaking adventures.

In order to register for Advanced Kayaking Camp, campers should have completed Avid4’s Kayaking Camp and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time . If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit.

Flat Water

Campers spend one day on flat water reviewing skills and learning advanced paddle strokes and practicing wet exits in preparation for moving water days.

During the remainder of the week, campers visit some of the Front Range’s premier rivers and creeks, practicing their technique by paddling sections of moving water. Campers explore the importance of Leave No Trace and take an active role in risk management. In addition to paddling, campers dive into the details of river dynamics, learn to identify risks and practice rescue skills. Please note that our white water kayaking locations will depend on water levels and group ability.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Sessions?

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple sessions of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others and make new friends.

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
