Advanced Rock Climbing Camp Boulder - 4th to 7th - Day Camp

Our Advanced Rock Climbing Day Camp gets campers focused on intermediate-level skills such as anchor building, knots, and top-rope set up on some of Boulder’s most iconic rock formations. Supported by our credentialed instructors, campers will go beyond the basics while ascending a range of routes and rock types.

Advanced Rock Climbing Camp Prerequisites:

  • I have completed Avid4 Adventure’s Rock Climbing Single-sport Camp.
  • During the school year, I participate in rock climbing activities with family, friends, or at a local rock gym.
  • I can identify and fit all integral climbing equipment, including helmet, harness, and shoes.
  • I know my basic knots and can tie myself in properly to my harness.
  • I have rappelled off of a rock wall.
  • I can belay my peers.

Please note: In order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to demonstrate the prerequisite skills listed below. If a camper does not meet these minimum skill requirements, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Climbing & Bouldering Technique

Equipment Practice

Authentic Climbing

Places We Go: Crown Rock, Elephant Buttress, Nip Tuck

Campers advance their climbing skills by tackling higher grades and varying rock types. The focus will be on introducing new techniques such as advanced foot placement like smears, flags, and heel hooks as well as advanced hand placements like crack climbing techniques.

Places We Go: Crown Rock, Elephant Buttress, Nip Tuck

Campers get comfortable with carabiners, stoppers, camalots and belay devices as they practice anchor setup, traditional gear placement, identifying natural anchors, and advancing their knot knowledge.

Every day, we take campers out to climb at some of Boulder’s best crags, tackling a range of rock types, styles and levels of difficulty at world-renowned sites.

MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Cassidy Morris

I love working with staff who celebrate authentic outdoor adventure and to watch the energy from our instructors get absorbed by the kids that they instruct. It is essential to introduce outdoor adventure to kids in order to give them a space to be creative, active, and true to themselves and their peers. Kids have such genuine spirits and they remind me to be my silly, humble, and compassionate self. One of my favorite moments to witness at camp is watching staff tune in to their authentic child spirit. The outdoors is where I can connect to my best self and I love being able to share it with others. In the summer, you can find me hiking or climbing all over Colorado. In the winter, I’m usually skiing in between work shifts.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
