Advanced Kayaking Camp Boulder - 4th to 7th - Day Camp

Our Advanced Kayaking Day Camp gets campers learning intermediate kayaking skills with a focus on moving water.  Day one will be on flat water to review and practice wet exits and rescues.  Days 2-5 will be on moving water where campers will experience the joy of paddling independently and working as a team to hone kayaking skills. Under the guidance of our able instructors, campers will navigate some of the most spectacular lakes and waterways in Colorado’s Front Range.

Advanced Kayaking Camp Prerequisites:

  • I have completed Avid4 Adventure’s Kayaking Single-Sport Camp.
  • I can paddle a kayak forward, backward, and in circles.
  • I know how to swim and would be comfortable “swimming” a section of rapids.
  • I can flip my kayak and perform a wet exit.
  • I can stop my kayak in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • I can turn my kayak to the left and right using appropriate strokes.

Please note: In order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to demonstrate the prerequisite skills listed above. If a camper does not meet these minimum skill requirements, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. Although they’ll be wearing personal flotation devices (PFDs) at all times, campers should be competent swimmers and feel comfortable momentarily submerged below water. If you have any questions about whether Advanced Kayaking Day Camp is right for your child, please give us a call at (720) 249-2412.

THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Flatwater

White Water

Places We Go: Boulder Reservoir

Campers spend their first day on flatwater. This day will be focused on reviewing equipment, practicing wet exits, and maneuvering rolls.

Places We Go: St. Vrain, Boulder Creek, Clear Creek

During the next 4 days, campers will leave flat-water behind to build upon their knowledge and skills in moving water. They will practice their technique in some of the Front Range’s premier bodies of water. Please note that our kayaking locations will depend on water levels and group ability.

MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Cassidy Morris

I love working with staff who celebrate authentic outdoor adventure and to watch the energy from our instructors get absorbed by the kids that they instruct. It is essential to introduce outdoor adventure to kids in order to give them a space to be creative, active, and true to themselves and their peers. Kids have such genuine spirits and they remind me to be my silly, humble, and compassionate self. One of my favorite moments to witness at camp is watching staff tune in to their authentic child spirit. The outdoors is where I can connect to my best self and I love being able to share it with others. In the summer, you can find me hiking or climbing all over Colorado. In the winter, I’m usually skiing in between work shifts.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
