Adventure Camp Mill Valley - 5th to 7th - Day Camp

Our Adventure Day Camp transports 5th – 7th graders to local settings for thrilling and fulfilling authentic outdoor experiences. Whether campers are new to adventure sports or already experienced athletes, every day brings a different challenge—mastering mountain biking, finding their balance on a stand up paddleboard, hiking a trail, climbing a nearby crag or navigating by GPS—and every activity is tailored to their ability level.

Beyond developing their individual abilities, campers focus on teamwork, working as a group to navigate their surroundings, paddling in pairs on stand up paddleboards or helping each other transport and set up gear. As their technical know-how grows, so does their ability to communicate and thrive in team environments.

With thoughtful guidance from our top-notch team of instructors, campers develop the lasting skills, experience and self-assuredness to launch them into a lifetime of exciting and nourishing outdoor adventure.

There is a shuttle to/from San Francisco available. Details can be found here.

Places We Go: Ring Mountain

We take campers to natural rock sites with breathtaking views of the San Francisco bay. They learn the ins and outs of climbing techniques, equipment, and safety on climbs calibrated to their ability level.

Places We Go: China Camp State Park

Whether campers are riding for the first time or the hundredth, we get them comfortable with biking technique, safety, equipment, and maintenance on China Camp State Park trails ranging from wide fire roads to single track. They can bring their own wheels or borrow from our fleet, which has bikes for campers of all sizes.

Places We Go: Marin County Open Space (Blithedale Summit, Camino Alto, King Mountain, Baltimore Canyon, etc.)

On stunning trails in Marin County Open Spaces, like King Mountain and Blithedale Summit, campers get out into nature and back to basics, learning about flora and fauna and Leave No Trace principles as they explore and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Places We Go: McNear’s Beach, McInnis Park and Paradise Beach Park

Campers build strength and balance on stand up paddleboards, playing games and gaining confidence on the water at local destinations like McInnis, Paradise Beach Park, and McNears Beach.

Places We Go: Camino Alto Open Space

Campers spend a full day building skills to increase their confidence in outdoor settings, learning to set up shelter, cook on backpacking stoves, read maps and GPS devices, assess risks and understand what it takes to be self-reliant in the outdoors.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids’ show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it? Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
