Rock & Roll California - 7th to 8th Grade - Expedition Camp

The Rock & Roll Expedition summer camp combines our popular rock climbing and mountain biking programs to create a unique one-week experience led by experienced staff that includes 2 days of climbing, 2 days of biking, plus a day of white water rafting. This trip is the perfect combo for a camper who wants to learn more about both sports but isn’t ready to commit to a full week of just one.

Climbing

On climbing days, campers will explore a range of engaging and challenging routes at local crags. They’ll break into small climbing teams to get comfortable with their equipment, practice climbing techniques and try out different roles within their team.

Biking

On biking days, campers will hone their technical and trail riding skills like bunny hops, cornering, and track stands, plus learn bike maintenance as they explore area trails.

Difficulty Rating: 2Single Sport Specialty: For campers seeking more specialized activity days and excelling in technical skills in two single sports.

Camping

Campers will take on a range of rock types, styles, and levels of difficulty in stunning natural settings as they explore knobs, domes and cliffs for an exciting 4-6 hours per day. They will get familiar with all climbing equipment and learn new techniques like flagging a big move, smearing a slab, mastering a crack, and heel hooking an arête.

Campers will get comfortable with their climbing equipment—carabiners, stoppers, camalots and belay devices—as they advance their knot knowledge.

Campers will take on a range of single-track trails, practicing keeping momentum as they climb hills and maintaining safe speed over rugged terrain and downhill.

Campers will take their mountain biking to the next level with technical obstacles, off-camber trails, tabletop jumps, and much more. They’ll assess environmental differences, employing a variety of biking techniques and body positions for each new landscape.

When they’re not riding, campers will learn the nuts and bolts of bike maintenance, such as solving derailleur tension issues, adjusting chain lengths, and truing wheels to prepare for any challenge that might arise on their rides.

During their day of white water rafting, campers will practice paddling through rapids, staying safe on the water and working together with their fellow rafters to navigate their vessel.

Throughout the week, campers will practice important interpersonal skills like communication, problem solving and teamwork. Through games during downtime, stories around the campfire and time alone reflecting, they’ll build confidence and comfort within the group and as an individual.

Campers will learn to maintain a campsite, setting up and breaking down their equipment, keeping their space tidy and cooking their own meals in the backcountry which fosters independence and valuable skills they will use throughout their lives. They’ll play games during downtime and swap stories around the campfire, building deep, lasting friendships with their fellow expedition-mates.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
