Drop-Off & Pick-Up
In order to provide each family with a smooth and personalized check-in experience, we have designated check-in times for each camp location and request that you drop-off at your designated time and not prior to our gate opening. If you have campers at both locations, please review the information closely as the drop off time differs by grade. After the check-in process, parents/guardians will have the option of taking a self-guided tour of our facilities or depart. Please plan an hour for registration from arrival to departure.
Please note that we are not able to open registration more than 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time because our staff are still preparing, so there is no benefit to arriving early.
Pick-Up & Closing Day
Experience the magic of Resident Overnight Camp with your camper! opportunity to hang out and enjoy camp with your child. Campers may not leave camp with anyone except their parents or guardian unless arrangements have been made with our camp office in advance.

Please arrive for the start of your pick-up time slot to be part of all ceremonies and activities with your child. Please plan 30 minutes for Closing Ceremonies, but stay & play until 1:00.
We do not allow visitation while your child is enrolled as we have found it can be a difficult experience for a child away from home. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter as it will be a great help to your child and many others in their adjustment to camp life. If parents/guardians would like to schedule a tour prior to their camper’s session, they may do so by signing up for a tour on the Avid4 website.
The way to communicate with your camper is quick and easy with our courtesy email service. Emails are printed and distributed to campers on Tuesdays (if off on overnight, day they return) and Fridays. To support our environmental initiatives since each email needs to be printed, please be mindful of length and limit quantity to two per sender per week. Why no “snail” mail or packages? Well, many reasons, but most importantly: delivery to sites is often very delayed (and therefore things often arrive after camp) & packages filled with junk food attract big wildlife (bears), rodents (mice), and devoid campers of the energy they need to thrive. Further, we want camp to be an inclusive experience for all campers, and in our experience, an abundance of mail and packages for select campers has diminished the camp experience of many others.
Part of the Resident Camp experience is to live unplugged for a period of time, so you should not expect phone calls from your child. News of friends speaking to their parents on the telephone can cause problems with other campers and make their adjustment to camp life more difficult. You are welcome to discuss your child’s progress with our Leadership Team, who will return all incoming calls and emails the same day. Please do not send cell phones as there is no cell or data reception at either site and Avid4 Adventure is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen items.
If you receive a distressing letter, which may occur with a child missing home, do not become alarmed. We have found that some campers may write a letter on the evening of the first night, and by the time you receive the letter two to three days later, your child will have had time to adjust and is having a fun time. Be assured that we are deeply concerned about the welfare of your child, and that they will always have our full attention. Should you have any concern in this regard, please feel free to call or email our Leadership Team and they will be happy to discuss your child’s progress. To help your child successfully transition to being away from home, please do not give them the option of returning home at any time prior to the end of the session. Children who have this in mind mentally prepare for an abbreviated stay and never allow themselves the chance to have fun. There is no proration or refund option under these circumstances. We will let you know if your child is having a more difficult time adjusting than the typical camper.

Label, label, label! Would you bring your luggage to an airport counter without a luggage tag? Of course not! Similarly, you would be amazed how similar 100 sleeping bags and backpacks can look. PLEASE bust out your labeler, luggage tags, and/or masking tape with Sharpie and put labels on:
- 100% of your child’s items
- The outside of their backpacks, duffel bags, sleeping bags, AND pillows
PLEASE label with your camper’s LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, & GROUP NAME.
Also, kindly leave junk food, candy, and other food items at home. Why? Well, for one… our chef teams take food seriously, and they want to fill your child with the right kind of energy. Also, there is a lot of wildlife at camp, and we want to appreciate them from a distance as opposed to in our cabins or campgrounds.
Rental Items & Items for Purchase
Backpacks, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are available to rent for the backpacking trip portion of your camper’s session through your online account. Please note that these items are for the backpacking trip portion of resident camps– please provide your own bedding and daypack for the onsite portion of your resident camp session.
We will also have items available for campers to purchase at our camp store prior to the start of camp and items are also available ahead of time in our online store. See the “Trading Post FAQ” tab below.
Please note that while all of these items are helpful (and some, like a rain jacket, are essential), your camper can certainly thrive without 100% of the items. So, before you go out and spend a bunch of money on things, please let us know if you have any questions.
Trading Post FAQs
What is the Trading Post?
Avid4 Adventure Overnight Camps operate a small camp store/trading post both online for purchases before the start of camp so that you can pack accordingly and onsite for parents, campers, and staff. The trading post allow campers the opportunity to pick up some new gear that is great for Overnight Camp (hat, backpack, apparel, water bottle, headlamp, etc).
When is the Trading Post Open?
The best and most effective way to purchase items is online ahead of the start of camp. In addition, the Trading Post will be open on Sunday during Registration Day and Saturday mornings during Family Day for parents and families to purchase items. The Trading Post will NO LONGER BE OPEN during the camp week.
What is offered in the Trading Post?
The Trading Post offers branded shirts, hats, backpacks, sweatshirts, winter hats, hammocks, and other high quality and useful items for camp. Items range from $10 for things like a water bottle to $50 for more premium items, such as a hydration backpack or premium hooded sweatshirt. Items can also be purchased ahead of time through our online store.
Why the change in 2019 from the former Trading Post model?
After several years, we have pivoted the former model because:
- It was creating an odd consumerist culture at camp that was not desirable.
- It was awkward when some campers had a lot of money to spend, while others may have not had any.
- Inventory was difficult to maintain with re-orders taking weeks, and there were many limitations on an effective point of sale solution at our camps.
Will fulfillment of items purchased online be completed at the start of camp or delivered by mail?
Items purchased online will be mailed, please give adequate time for arrival. Items are only mailed out once a week.
Health & Wellness
NURSE & HEALTH CENTER:
A resident nurse and on-call health care team is employed and living on the premises at all times. Parents will be notified if their child is in need of the infirmary for longer than a 24-hour period. Should a condition arise of a serious nature, the Camp Director will contact the parents or guardians, or your personal physician if necessary, by telephone.
If your child takes medication while at camp, please do not pack your child’s medication in their luggage. Instead, present it to the healthcare staff at the check-in table upon arrival to camp.
- All medications must be in their original container (not in a pill box, ziploc bag or other container) and must have supporting documentation from a prescriptive authority for administration.
- Any medications without appropriate documentation WILL NOT be administered to your child.
- If you have not already signed our Over the Counter Medications waiver giving us permission to administer our clinic’s medications, we will provide you a copy at check-in.
- Our clinic provides the medications listed below for all campers. If you did not receive a doctor signature to administer an OTC medication that you brought with you, no worries, we’ve got you covered!

FIRST DAY HEALTH SCREENING:
Under the guidance of the Healthcare Team, each camper will receive an initial health screening within 24 hours of arrival. The screening will look at overall observable health, lice check, throat and mouth check, and skin check.
Lice Treatment Plan
Lice is a part of life for those involved in schools, community settings, sports teams, and summer camps. The American Camp Association has excellent information on lice for you to read if interested. Additionally, the CDC has an excellent website with plenty of information.
Lice Policy and Screening Process:
On the first day at Windy Peak, we will conduct a lice screening for each camper in the clinic to determine if lice, nits, or eggs are present.
If your camper has lice, nits or eggs, you may choose one of the following options:
- Pay Avid4 Adventure $100 to remove the lice onsite at Windy Peak.
- Take the camper home to remove the lice/nits yourself and return to camp after your camper is completely lice/nit free.
Prevention Before Camp
We encourage you to have your campers checked for head lice at least two weeks prior to the first day of camp. If your camper had head lice or was exposed to it (family member, friend, etc) within four weeks of their arrival to camp, please notify us. We are committed to doing all we can to keep lice out of our community.
Additionally, you can put all of your camper’s clothing, bedding, stuffed animals, etc. in a high-heat dryer for 30 minutes prior to packing them up for camp. As long as these items don’t come into contact with anyone or anything else between the dryer and duffle bag/backpack, this may kill lice or nits that might be on their belongings that you aren’t aware of.

Transportation to Windy Peak
For campers who are flying into Colorado, Avid4 Adventure will provide a shuttle service to and from the Denver International Airport (DEN) with prior communication and acceptance with the camp office.
- The fee for this shuttle service is $40 one-way and $80 round trip.
- All participants under 12 years old must travel with an Unaccompanied Minor Form, purchased at the time airplane reservations are made; this is provided through the airline and must be prepaid.
Resident Overnight Camp has pre-designated pick up/ drop off times
We understand that flying is expensive and arrival/departure times can vary and change the cost of the ticket, however, we ask that you schedule your arrival/departure times within the pre-designated time-frames we offer. You may fill out camper’s flight information here to submit it to Avid4 Adventure.
There will be an additional $50 charge when camper arrive outside of the “standard” time, because we will have to hire an additional staff member to arrange for pickup.
Please schedule for arrival to DIA between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm MST.
Please schedule departure from DIA between 8:00 am and 11:00 am.
Unaccompanied Minors will be met at the gate and traditional campers flying into Denver will be met at the baggage claim by Avid4 Adventure camp personnel wearing a staff uniform and holding a sign with your camper’s name on it. Campers will then be escorted to a marked Avid4 Adventure van for the 2-hour trip to camp. Campers should carry a list of phone numbers, including the Overnight Camp Director, and a small amount of travel money. Camp staff will inform the parents/guardians by telephone, that their camper had arrived safely.
Tickets, passports, money, cell phones, and Unaccompanied Minor forms will be collected from the camper and placed in the camp office until departure.
Our staff will escort your child to the airline check-in counter and if your camper is 12 and under, accompany your child to their gate until they board their flight. For campers over 12, our staff will escort your child to the check-in counter and remain with them until he/she proceeds through the main security area. Time spent in DIA will vary widely depending upon flight changes and delays. Expect a long day!
It is highly recommended that campers pack a change of clothes in their carry-on/backpack along with any money, identification, tickets, medications, and paperwork. This is essential in the instance that their luggage arrives late. Please be sure to label clearly your camper’s luggage with his/her name.
No later than 30 days prior to departure, the camp director must have the following information:
- Name of camper
- Flight number
- Confirmation number
- Cell phone number of camper
International campers must contact us to make special arrangements. All campers will receive further information prior to their camp session.

Food at Windy Peak
We take pride in our outstanding kitchen staff and the work they do to prepare amazing, healthy meals for campers with all appetites and dietary restrictions. Our kitchen crew makes almost everything from scratch in our state-of-the-art kitchen, whipping up kid-friendly, family-style and buffet-style meals. We serve fresh fruit and granola in the morning and have a full salad bar available at lunch and dinner. Lunch and dinner also boast a fantastic dessert. During their session, kids will have a different meal every single day, so they will enjoy a large variety of options. There is no limit to the number of servings available and we are serious when we say that no one ever leaves our dining hall hungry!

Resident Overnight Camp Main Menu
Where do campers eat?
Campers eat in the dining hall when they’re on site at camp, or in the great outdoors when they’re out on overnights and expeditions. Mealtimes in the dining hall are more than just a chance to fill up—they’re a time for the entire camp to be together to eat with their cabin groups, visit with friends and family from other cabins, listen to announcements, and sing songs.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
We can accommodate food allergies, vegetarian diets, and gluten-free needs. Make sure to have your doctor fill out the medical forms found in your registration confirmation email if your camper has special allergies we need to accommodate.
What will my camper eat off-site during the backpacking portion?
Menus for off-site adventures and overnight expeditions vary, as campers need to carry their food with them from location to location. Many times campers will have the opportunity to provide input into their meals and help plan the menu. They’ll also get to try their hands at “backcountry cooking,” making meals using their camp stoves.

At Windy Peak Resident Overnight Camp, we hire a professional food service team to deliver the great food we enjoy each summer. Our staff are led by experienced chefs with diverse experience in the culinary field from catering to fine dining and are excited to raise the bar at Overnight Camp to show what ‘camp food’ can really be.

Meal times are one of the most fun aspects of camp! Every lunch and dinner has its own unique theme, which allows campers and staff to be creative and enjoy meals in a whole new way.
