Adventure on Every Trail 7th – 8th Grade Expedition Mountain Biking Camp

7th – 8th Grade Expedition Mountain Biking

Built for 7th-8th graders with mountain biking experience,* our weeklong expedition camp boosts kids’ skills and confidence as they bike every day and camp out every night. Campers will pitch their tents in Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming, 24 miles west of Cheyenne, then spend the week on their bikes exploring its gorgeous meadows, dramatic granite formations and miles and miles of trails.

With a group of up to 13 campers and two expert instructors, riders will traverse Curt Gowdy’s extensive network of dedicated mountain biking trails, along with miles more at nearby Happy Jack Recreation Area. For up to five hours each day, they’ll build their technical, trail riding and bike maintenance skills, plus learn the fundamentals of sleeping comfortably and cooking deliciously in the great outdoors. And for a refreshing break, campers will take to the Cache la Poudre River to enjoy a day of rafting.

It’s a week of epic riding, character-building, tent camping and unforgettable fun that transforms young mountain bikers into skilled, self-assured trail shredders.

* While beginning mountain bikers are welcome, participants must have some experience biking on dirt trails and uneven terrain. Campers will likely be divided up by experience level during rides.

We strongly encourage campers to bring their own fully tuned, well-fitted mountain bikes to increase their comfort level. If they don’t have a bike or bring one that isn’t trail-ready, they can rent from our fleet for a $50 fee.

The Week's Adventures

Trail Riding

Technical Skills

White Water Rafting

Taking off daily from trailheads either a bike ride away at Curt Gowdy or a van ride away at Happy Jack, campers will tackle various single-track trails as they practice climbing, descending and navigating rugged terrain.

Campers will level up their skills with technical obstacles, off-camber trails, tabletop jumps and more, adapting their technique and body positions to a range of landscapes.

Campers take a break from the trail with a day on the water at nearby Cache la Poudre River. With help from a licensed rafting company, they’ll learn to paddle safely through small rapids and work together to navigate their rafts.

Campers will learn to maintain a campsite, setting up and breaking down their equipment, keeping their space tidy and cooking meals in the backcountry. They’ll play games during downtime and swap stories around the campfire, building deep, lasting friendships with their fellow expedition-mates.

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
