Learn to Bike!

Highlands Ranch – Learn to Bike!

Aspiring cyclists age three and a half to six experience the fun of biking on two wheels in our half-day Learn to Bike! day camp. Nurtured by skilled instructors in a supportive on-site environment, our pint-sized pedalers enjoy 5:1 camper-to-staff ratios for lots of individual attention and patient, personalized coaching.

We meet kids wherever they are at in their skill level, working through a careful progression from scooting to coasting to pedaling as they get comfortable cycling on their own. Taught by our experienced instructors, this time tested method provides campers with the perfect opportunity for skill and confidence building.

Learn to Bike! is built for first-time riders or kids using training wheels or balance bikes, not those who can already ride. While we encourage campers to use their own bikes, they can also borrow from our fleet.

THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Biking

Our carefully crafted program leads kids through a progression of skills—walking their bikes, scooting downhill, coasting with their feet up, touching the pedals and finally pedaling—building the know-how they need to bike confidently on their own.

Camp Director

Talia Baker

Talia has loved the outdoors ever since she was a kid– hiking, kayaking and exploring nearby farms in rural upstate New York. Her passion for teaching started early. By age 13, she was working at a 100-acre U-pick farm, educating students about local agriculture. After graduating from Cornell with a B.S. in agricultural education, she worked creating educational summer programs for local camps and children’s gardens.

She started at Avid4 Adventure as an instructor, honing her skills in mountain biking, rock climbing and canoeing, becoming certified in Wilderness First Aid and as a Wilderness First Responder. As the director of our Highlands Ranch camps, she loves helping kids get connected to the natural world and to each other. When she’s not at her day jobs as an Avid4 Adventure Camp Director or as a Distance Learning Coordinator at Respect Academy, you’ll find her hiking or playing rugby.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
