Rock Climbing Level II Camp

Golden – Rock Climbing Level II Camp

Campers in our Level II Rock Climbing Day Camp will learn intermediate-level skills such as anchor building, knots, and top-rope set up on some of Colorado’s most iconic rock formations. Supported by our expert instructors, campers will go beyond the basics while ascending a range of routes and rock types.

  • During the school year, I participate in rock climbing activities with family, friends, or at a local rock gym.
  • I can identify and fit all integral climbing equipment, including helmet, harness, and shoes.
  • I know my basic knots and can tie myself in properly to my harness.
  • I have rappelled off of a rock wall.
  • I can belay my peers.

Please note: In order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to demonstrate the prerequisite skills listed above. If a camper does not meet these minimum skill requirements, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. MEET YOUR CAMP DIRECTOR

Daniel Fluharty

Daniel started adventuring as a kid growing up in Arkansas and hasn’t stopped since. He took a job working at summer camps as soon as he was old enough, and became a caving, climbing and backpacking guide and a climbing and canyoneering instructor during his college years at Western Kentucky University and Metropolitan State University. After graduating with a degree in recreation management, he worked as a lead climbing and mountain biking guide at Apex Ex Adventure Trips.

A Wilderness First Responder and American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Climbing Instructor, Daniel spends as much time as he can mountain biking, rock climbing, splitboarding, backpacking and playing soccer. He loves working with kids in the outdoors, harnessing their natural spirit for exploration and guiding them in new and exciting adventures.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blues Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clues so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
