Mountain Biking Level II Camp

Denver Washington Park – Mountain Biking Level II

Campers take their mountain biking skills up a notch as they hit beautiful trails outside of Golden in our Mountain Biking Level II Day Camp. Taught by our expert instructors, campers spend the session focusing on intermediate mountain biking skills such as cornering techniques, tackling drop-offs, riding through uphill obstacles, using manual pumping, and navigating challenging terrain like sand, steps, and rocks and more.

Mountain Biking Level II campers should have fulfilled the prerequisites listed below. While we strongly encourage campers to use their own bikes, we can provide bikes (and helmets) as needed.

Mountain Biking Camp Level II Prerequisites:

  • I have completed Avid4 Adventure’s Mountain Biking Single-sport Camp.
  • During the school year, I go mountain biking on my own, with family, friends, or a local riding group.
  • I can perform a pre-ride safety check on my bike.
  • I can demonstrate proper braking with hand brakes.
  • I have learned and can demo how to shift gears.
  • I can ride safely over rocky or sandy terrain.
  • I have learned and can demo how to ride uphill and downhill.

Please note: In order to register for this program, campers MUST be able to demonstrate the prerequisite skills listed above. If a camper does not meet these minimum skill requirements, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. If you have questions about whether Mountain Biking Level II Day Camp is right for your child, please give us a call at 800-977-9873.

Places We Go: Dawson Butte, Mt. Falcon Park, Elk Meadows Park, Meyer Ranch, Alderfer/Three Sisters Park

Campers learn how to take their mountain biking to the next level, with rugged terrain, technical obstacles, off camber trails, table top jumps, and much more. While observing environmental differences, riders will embrace new biking techniques and body positions, required to tackle these new landscapes.

Places We Go: Dawson Butte, Mt. Falcon Park, Elk Meadows Park, Meyer Ranch, Alderfer/Three Sisters Park

We take campers out to a range of advanced trails where they practice keeping momentum to climb hills and maintaining safe speed to roll over tricky downhill sections.

When they’re not riding, campers tackle bike maintenance, solving derailleur tension issues, adjusting chain lengths, and truing wheels. Learning to plan and prepare for the most undesirable bike issues, gives campers the knowledge they need to pack for any bike expedition.

Camp Director

Nate Thoreson

I love working with kiddos in the outdoors and in particular, that Mother Nature teaches adaptability. I enjoy showing kids how to change gears when thrown curve balls and help find their own natural path of learning and growing.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blue’s Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clue’s so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.

OUR APPROACH TO SAFETY
