Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp: Board with a View

Castle Rock – Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp

Stand up paddleboarding is enjoyed by many for its convenience, overall strength building, and incredible views. Our Stand Up Paddleboarding Camp teaches campers on both flat-water and whitewater where they work on paddling skills and feel the joys of paddling with scenic views. Under the guidance of our able instructors, campers will learn basic strokes, rescue techniques, river reading and water safety as they navigate beautiful bodies of water in Colorado’s Front Range.

Campers learn skills tailored to their ability level, progressing as they build proficiency and comfort. We group them by grade—2nd – 4th graders join the Skills Camp, while 5th – 7th graders make up our Adventure Team—and give them plenty of individualized support as they develop confidence and deepen their technical expertise, stroke by stroke.

Please note: Stand Up Paddleboarding Day Camp campers should have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water in a kayak, canoe or SUP. In order to register for this program, campers MUST feel fully comfortable on open water and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. If you have any questions about whether Stand Up Paddleboarding Day Camp is right for your child, please give us a call at 800-977-9873.

Flat Water

Places We Go: Chatfield Reservoir

Campers spend their first two or three days mastering flat-water skills, getting comfortable balancing on their board, learning paddle strokes and practicing rescue techniques before they ever steer their boards towards moving water.

During the second half of the week, campers will leave flat-water behind to build knowledge and skills in moving water, practicing their technique. Please note that our paddling locations will depend on water levels and group ability.

Nichole Searle

Nichole loves the natural curiosity of kids and their excitement to be outside. Seeing the thrill in kids’ faces when they learn to bike, climb or paddle is one of her favorite rewards, so it’s no wonder she finds working at Avid4 Adventure to be one of the best jobs ever. When last year’s camp season ended, she kept the adventures continuing in her household by building a rock climbing wall in her living room for her kids and friends!

Nichole has a degree in Family Science from Brigham Young University. While in college, she studied abroad in Mexico City, in the jungles of Guatemala and Belize, on an island on the second largest barrier reef, and lived with locals in the Yucatán peninsula. That kicked off a wanderlust that spread to her family, and all 7 are now advanced scuba certified and enjoy exploring under the sea. In her professional life, Nichole has worked with kids and teens for over 20 years and still volunteers at a girls’ camp she attended as a child.

When she isn’t directing summer camp for Avid4 Adventure, or striking out on a new outdoor adventure with her family, you can find Nichole singing, designing stained glass, or tinkering with her car while listening to her favorite car repair podcasts.

Why Sign Up For Multiple Weeks?

Do you remember that old TV show Blue’s Clues? It was the most successful kids show of all time. Do you remember that book that your child insisted on reading over and over again? How could you forget it. Why was Blues Clue’s so successful and why did your child NEED to re-read that book? Because repetition promotes learning, growth, and empowerment.

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple weeks of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others.

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
